At home :: LUXE BEDROOM FOR LESS

I don’t know about you guys, but my bedroom is one of the rooms in our apartment where I spend a lot of my time in (After the kitchen!). It’s where I like to retreat to read, sleep or just plainly relax. When styling my bedroom, I like neutral palettes with a luxurious feel. Now that sounds expensive you might say; Well luckily for us ladies on budgets, there are a couple of tips & tricks to obtain a luxe bedroom without shelling out tons of money:
1. Try a tufted headboard: It will give the room a focal point and with that one tweak you bedroom will look totally different. You can diy or look into Etsy for affordable options.
2. Create a feature wall with some eye catching wall paper. This will give your room an unique feature. This is the grown up version of what you had growing up! I found these well priced one’s at Home Dépot.
3. Just adding fresh flower in a transparent glass or pot will give a breath of fresh air to your room. Don’t worry about getting them at a florist (might be costly on a weekly basis!), supermarkets now have great choices too.
4. Display your prettiest jewelry. There are many options for this, you can get a mannequin, tray or bowls..Just have fun with it and add personality. I absolutely love Monika’s (Doctor’s Closet) mannequin in her bedroom.
5. Trade in your plastic hangers for one’s that feel like they belong in a clothing store. You can always buy them or personalize your own like this tutorial shows you here. Sometimes the little things make a HUGE difference.
6. Add texture. I personally love the addition of a faux fur throw which gives a sumptuous look to an average looking bed.

In the end, you want your bedroom to represent who you are so just have fun with it!

Tutorial :: Golden Pumpkins

I love an easy DIY and this one was a no brainer for me: I love Halloween & pumpkins but the thought (And patience) of carving pumpkins is so daunting. I’ve been seeing a lot of inspiration around the blogosphere lately from edgy jewelled pumpkins to chevron ones so I knew I needed to give it a try myself. Trust me when I say this, it’s as easy as it looks.
The most time consuming part was placing the tape correctly so that my stripes would be straight but aside from that, everything went pretty smoothly. My living room now looks a little more festive and i’m really feeling the Halloween mood!

And don’t worry if some lines are not straight, just do the best you can and have fun!

Beautiful Rose Arrangement For 11$

I love flowers. I don’t like receiving them in a pre packaged gift per se, but I love buying them for myself and incorporating them into my home decor. From the coffee table to the night stand, it adds an instant lift to any room. So if i’m feeling out of it after a day of work, I head out to the shops. Sure, I like the authentic flower shop but this bouquet I made above comes from the grocery store, believe it or not. I was able to find mismatched roses for 11$ and arrange them the way I wanted.
Anyone can pretty much make their own bouquets. Here are a few tips:
- Pick a colour scheme you want to go with.
- I always keep the “food” packages the florist gives me, that way I have it on hand. I then put it at the bottom of my chosen pot and pour my water over it.
- When I cut the stems, I do it at an angle.
- Measure the high you want depending on the size of your pot. I like my flowers to be snug.
- I also like to add leafage to keep a nice texture.

But just have fun. Turn on the music, have a glass of wine & enjoy! And, P.S. these roses from the grocery store lasted more than 2 weeks!

My top 5 “accessoires” for living spaces:

The best part about moving into a new place is creating a space that represents you to a T. From your music preferences being on full display to some art you’ve been collecting over the years gathered on the walls, there are really no limits. (Except your wallet limit of course.) I’ve narrowed down my top 5 accessories for my home.
1. Trays, trays and more trays. I love the above white one I picked up at Parliament in Gastown. It sits on the coffee table and displays little trinkets I’ve picked up. {Chanel books from The Cross Design in Yaletown}
2. Candles & cute matchstick boxes. { From a new favourite: Orling&Wu in Gastown}
3. Books that showcase a little bit about yourself. There are so many to choose from..I picked up the lovely Vanity Fair portraits at The Cross Design a while ago..
4. A pop of colour goes a long way. Especially if your walls are white. You can pick a colour and work around it.
5. Mirrored surfaces & Silver. They add the extra “oomph” on top of the fire place in our living room. It also makes the room feel larger than it actually is.

The one thing missing is some beautiful art to hang on the walls. I have my eye on a couple of pieces..To be continued.
Hope you are having a beautiful Sunday, MeMo
